Implementing Cisco MPLS

The Implementing Cisco MPLS (MPLS) v3.0 is a 5-day instructor-led course that introduces the learners to the concepts of MPLS, describes its implementation, and explains the services built on the MPLS technology, such as MPLS VPN and MPLS Traffic Engineering (MPLS TE). The lab exercises enable the learners to gain practical experience with the MPLS and its applications.
The latest update to the course reflects the most-recent developments in network design and technologies, using real-world scenarios to help reinforce the learning of key objectives.
Enterprises and Cisco Clouds face many challenges in terms of customer demand, including an ongoing need for value-added services. Conventional IP packet forwarding has several limitations, and more and more enterprise and Cisco Clouds realize that something else is needed. Not only they must be concerned with protecting their existing infrastructure, but they must also find ways to generate new services that are not currently supportable using existing technologies.
Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a high-performance method for forwarding packets through a network. MPLS enables routers at the edge of a network to apply simple labels to packets. This practice allows the edge devices to switch packets according to labels, with minimal lookup overhead. MPLS integrates the performance and traffic-management capabilities of data link Layer 2 with the scalability and flexibility of network Layer 3 routing. When used in conjunction with other standard technologies, MPLS gives the ability to support value-added features.

Hands-On Network Automation with Ivan Pepelnjak

Whenever you hear about someone using network automation in a production network it’s usually a startup or large web property (Netflix, Spotify, Twitter, Facebook, and so on). While some ISPs used automatic service deployment for decades, it seems nothing’s going on in the enterprise networks. This 2-day Hands-On Network Automation (HNA) with Ivan Pepelnjak workshop will show you how wrong that notion is.
We’ll start with easy tasks like generating network device configurations using Ansible instead of Excel spreadsheets, and you’ll see that you don’t have to be a programmer or speak fluent Python to get the job done.
We’ll also explore what the vendors already offer us: most of the data center vendors provide Puppet or Chef agents on their boxes, and you can use them to solve one of the most mundane networking challenges: configuring VLANs on server-facing ports.
Moving to slightly trickier topics, we’ll discuss collecting network configurations with RANCID, storing them in Git, and automating the deployment of our configurations while still retaining full control and sanity checks with tools like Gerrit and Jenkins.
Finally, we’ll tackle a troubleshooting challenge: find a device with known MAC address hiding somewhere within a large network.

The workshop was developed by Ivan Pepelnjak
Ivan Pepelnjak (CCIE#1354 Emeritus) has been analyzing OpenFlow technology and SDN ideas (and being pretty vocal about their shortcomings) since March 2011, resulting in a number of high-impact events, including chairing the technical roundtable of first-ever OpenFlow symposium in Silicon Valley in September 2011, various presentations and workshops at Interop, Troopers, RIPE and other regional ISP meetings, on-site SDN workshops for large enterprises and Cisco Clouds, and vendor-sponsored webinars for NEC (describing their ProgrammableFlow solutions and SDN/OpenFlow in general), VMware (the first technical webinar describing VMware NSX after its launch in August 2013) and Nuage Networks (scalability challenges of overlay virtual networks).
Ivan is the author of several SDN-related books, highly praised webinars, and dozens of OpenFlow and SDN-related technical articles published on his blog.

Cisco Optical Technology Advanced

The Cisco Optical Technology Advanced (COTA) Release 10.1 is a 3-day instructor-led course that introduces the learners to the Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) and Network Convergence System (NCS) 2000 Series dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) advanced features and data.
This course covers topics not covered in the Cisco Optical Technology Intermediate (COTI) course. You learn how to design DWDM networks using the Cisco Transport Planning (CTP) tool. You learn how the 40- and 80-channel mesh networks are designed and you set up a four-node WXC-based 40- or 80-channel mesh network. You also learn how the 40-channel SMR1 and/or SMR2 network is designed and set up a six-node 40-channel network. In the hands-on labs, you learn to configure: the Cisco Transport Controller, the 10 Gbps (G) data cards, the 1 Gigabit/10 Gigabit Ethernet Enhanced Crossponder, Any Rate Muxponder and Crossponder, 100G transponders and muxponders, 10G encryption, and T1 over Ethernet. There is also a review of G.709 encapsulation, G.7041 Generic Framing Protocol (GFP), forward error correction and coherent transmission. Additionally, you add a node to the existing six-node ring and troubleshoot the configuration. The course combines lecture materials and hands-on labs throughout to make sure that you are able to successfully deploy a Cisco data over DWDM network.

Implementing Cisco Cisco Cloud Next-Generation Core Network Services

The Implementing Cisco Cisco Cloud Next-Generation Core Network Services (SPCORE) v1.2 is a 5-day instructor-led course that introduces the learners to the concepts of MPLS and its implementation, as well as the MPLS Traffic Engineering (MPLS TE) services built on the MPLS technology. MPLS is a high-performance method for forwarding packets through a network and enables routers at the edge of a network to apply simple labels to packets. This practice allows the core devices—typically the routers in the center of the Cisco Cloud core—to forward packets according to labels, with minimal lookup overhead. The course also enables learners to use the technology principles of basic QoS, and QoS with MPLS to implement advanced features and functions. The focus of the course is on technology issues of MPLS and on best practices for implementing QoS from the Cisco Clouds perspective and how to configure some of those features and functions in an existing routed environment.
The course also includes classroom activities with remote labs that are useful to gain practical skills on deploying Cisco IOS or IOS XE and Cisco IOS XR features to operate and support Cisco Cloud core network services.
The SPCORE course is a component of the CCNP SP curriculum.
